Stoke City reportedly wanted Newcastle United’s Matt Ritchie, but they are now claimed to be on the verge of signing Huddersfield Town’s Tom Ince.

Stoke City have moved onto Huddersfield Town winger Tom Ince after being frustrated in their attempt to sign Matt Ritchie from Newcastle United, according to The Daily Mail.

It has been reported that Ince will have his medical at Stoke and will switch to the Championship side from Premier League club Huddersfield in the summer transfer window.

Matt Ritchie to stay at Newcastle United?

Ritchie has been on the radar of Stoke this summer, with The Daily Mail reporting earlier this month that Newcastle had turned down a £15 million bid for the 28-year-old winger.

With the Potters now reportedly on the verge of securing the services of Ince, it seems that the 28-year-old Scotland international winger – who earns £45,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – could stay at Newcastle for the 2018-19 campaign.

Ritchie has been on the books of Newcastle since the summer of 2016 when he joined from Bournemouth for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Star to be worth £12m.
