Stoke City could sign the promising Belgian instead of the Tottenham Hotspur man.

Stoke City are eyeing Club Brugge centre-back Bjorn Engels with Tottenham Hotspur’s valuation of Kevin Wimmer proving prohibitive, according to The Daily Mirror.

The report claims Tottenham have placed a £20 million price tag on Wimmer, whereas Brugge have quoted the Potters £8.5 million for Engels.

However, it is added that recent injuries could see the Belgian side settle for even less for the 22-year-old, who has been linked with Arsenal and Everton in the past.

Despite having already added Kurt Zouma and Bruno Martins Indi to Stoke’s central defensive ranks this summer, manager Mark Hughes is said to be eager to play three at the back this campaign.

And it is claimed the Welshman is keen to see another option for the role, Ryan Shawcross, sign a new deal at the Bet 365 Stadium amid interest from other clubs.

Stoke’s chances of landing 6ft 4 Engels are likely to have improved following Brugge’s Champions League elimination.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are said to have agreed terms with Ajax centre-back Davinson Sanchez, but have yet to agree a fee for the Colombian.
