Can the Potters bring the Stoke-born midfielder home before the transfer deadline? Or might West Ham United swoop?

Stoke City’s hopes of securing the sentimental return of New York City midfielder Jack Harrison before the transfer window closes appear to be slipping.
New York City are holding out for £5m, but Sky Sports reports that Stoke are not prepared to pay that much for a youngster who is untested in the Premier League.

Paul Lambert’s side have already made two signings this January, but have been thrifty in the process of bringing in full-backs Moritz Bauer and Kostas Stafylidis.
Harrison moved to America as a teenager and has impressed since bursting onto the MLS scene, with 14 goals and 10 assists from 55 appearances, but he does have family in Staffordshire and so a move to Stoke may be his preferred choice if he is to come back to England.

However, with Stoke apparently unwilling to match his valuation, that could open the door for West Ham United who have been linked with an interest by The Sentinel.
According to The Sun, the Hammers have been quoted £30m for Fulham captain Tom Cairney, so could yet switch their attention to the more affordable Harrison.
