According to the Telegraph, Stoke City have launched a loan bid for Manchester City’s Wilfried Bony.
The report claims the Potters have made a late bid for the Ivory Coast international, with City holding out for a £2 million loan fee, although his wages could prove a potential stumbling block.
Bony joined the Citizens from Swansea City 18 months ago but he has since struggled to make an impact at the Etihad Stadium, scoring just six league goals in 36 appearances.
Following Pep Guardiola’s arrival as City boss, a number of players have been heavily linked with an exit from the club with Bony seemingly out of favour under the former Barcelona manager.
The 27-year-old undoubtedly still boasts plenty of quality, yet his style of play is somewhat different to that of Guardiola and should he stay at City he will no doubt find first-team opportunities hard to come by.
Stoke have started the season poorly, picking up just one point from their opening three matches and scoring only two goals, both of which came via dead-ball situations.
The Potters are desperate for some added firepower up front and a player of Bony’s stature would no doubt give the Midlands club a huge lift upon returning from the international break.
The Telegraph reports that the two clubs are in discussions over a move, although Stoke will need City to keep paying a substantial part of his reported £110,000 per week wages in order for a deal to go through.
