Stoke City could scupper Aston Villa’s plans to sign the 23-year-old.
Stoke City have enquired about Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, according to the Daily Mail.
The report states that Championship side Aston Villa have already held talks about signing the 23-year-old and Stoke’s interest could scupper the Villans’ plans, with a move to the Bet365 Stadium said to appeal.

The Potters will be without Jack Butland for another three months and are keen to sign Derby County loanee Lee Grant on a permanent basis.
However, the Rams’ asking price – £2.5 million rising to £4.5 million according to the Daily Mail – looks to have prompted manager Mark Hughes to seek alternatives.
Johnstone, who is United’s third choice option behind David de Gea and Sergio Romero, has played a lot of football in England’s lower leagues and is said to have a string of second tier sides – led by Steve Bruce’s Villa – chasing his services.
The Villans signed Johnstone’s former Old Trafford teammate Pierluigi Gollini in the summer, but the Italian has been hit and miss so far and is wanted back in Italy, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The Daily Record reported this month that Bruce is considering a reunion with Hull City’s Allan McGregor at Villa Park.
