Stoke City are confident of landing Quique Sanchez Flores despite hold up in talks, the Sun reports.
Sanchez Flores is said to have informed Espanyol of his desire to become Stoke’s new manager, little more than 18 months after he left the Potters’ Premier League rivals Watford.
It is claimed the two clubs are still ‘hammering out a deal’, however, with Espanyol demanding £3.5 million to part with the 52-year-old. who led them to eighth in La Liga last season.
According to the Sun, this is only a minor obstacle and Stoke’s chief executive Tony Scholes is still said to be in Barcelona in the hope of concluding a deal.
It is claimed that Sanchez Flores is likely to be in stands for the Potters’ fixture against Manchester United on Monday, as he does not want to disrupt the plans put in place by caretaker duo Eddie Niedzwiecki and Kevin Russell this week.
The Sun cites reports in Spain which claim the former Valencia, Benfica and Atletico Madrid manager, could still take charge of Espanyol against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
