Stewart Donald is reportedly close to agreeing a £50 million sale of Sunderland, with the interested party watching the Black Cats’ latest win.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (18/8; page 65), the uncertainty surrounding Sunderland’s ownership could soon reach a conclusion with Stewart Donald ready to sell the League One side for £50 million.
The Sun on Sunday reports that the Black Cats owner held talks with the interested group earlier this week, and they were in attendance for Jack Ross’ side’s 2-1 win over Portsmouth on Saturday.
Donald has been linked with selling Sunderland for a while now, and The Sun on Sunday (18/8; page 65) reports that he is very happy with the American-based group that are interested in buying the club having previously had his concerns about the consortium led by Mark Campbell that expressed an interest earlier in the summer.
The report notes that the club are expected to announce this week that advanced talks are being held, and the deal is expected to go through subject to due diligence.

It will be pleasing for Sunderland supporters to have an end in sight after a lot of uncertainty.
Donald is absolutely nowhere near being one of the worst owners in the EFL, but it looks set to be much better for the club to get a sale sorted rather than remain in limbo.

Donald will probably remain a popular figure amongst the large majority of the Sunderland supporters just for being the man to bring an end to Ellis Short’s tenure as owner.
But with the fans ready to see their time in League One end as soon as possible, that popularity may be put to one side while the supporters patiently wait for some clarity and a little more stability after so much speculation.
