According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard had plans to involve winger Kai Kennedy in his first team this coming season.
It’s claimed that Gerrard wanted to see Kennedy in the first-team setup this term, having seen real potential in him.
It was only in November that Gerrard told the Daily Record that he thinks Kennedy is a ‘fabulous’ player after some ‘outstanding’ displays in the youth setup.
Kennedy then made his first-team debut in January as he featured against Stranraer in the Scottish Cup, so it’s no great shock to hear that Gerrard had big plans for him.
Rangers have a number of wingers who are unlikely to feature much next season, including Brandon Barker, Jamie Murphy and Jordan Jones.
However, Kennedy has failed to agree a new deal at Ibrox, and Rangers have now told him that he is free to leave the club this summer.

Seeing the 18-year-old leave Rangers would be horrible for fans and seemingly Gerrard himself, as all had high hopes for Kennedy.
Unless there is a U-turn to come, Kennedy will be leaving Rangers, and will raise questions about the pathway from youth team to first team at Ibrox.
