Glasgow Rangers are reportedly closing in on a deal to bring Steven Davis to Ibrox.
According to a report from the Daily Record, Steven Davis is currently set to only join Rangers on loan until the end of the season, with the midfielder apparently wanting to keep his options open.
Davis is expected to be the next name to join Steven Gerrard’s side this month, with Jermain Defoe joining on loan, and Jordan Jones and Glen Kamara both signing pre-contract deals with the Gers ahead of the summer.
But while Davis is still set to become the club’s latest addition, there has apparently been a late twist in the deal. The Daily Record reports that Davis is set to move to Ibrox on loan for the rest of the campaign.
Intriguingly, the Southampton midfielder wants to keep his options open, according to the Record. That would perhaps suggest that Rangers may not end up with the terms that they would have wanted in an ideal world.
Bringing Davis in on loan should still be a fantastic piece of business for the Gers. Transfermarkt shows that he is out of contract with the Premier League side in the summer, so there may well be no reason to suspect that a permanent move will not get done at the end of the season anyway.
But perhaps, it could prove beneficial to Rangers to have a much more temporary arrangement. Davis should be an excellent signing, but if he is unable to live up to expectations, the Gers have the option to move on rather than worry about the remaining time on a contract.
