McClaren, who was sacked by Derby County in March 2017, began his coaching career at Oxford United.
Steve McClaren is in the frame for the Oxford United manager’s job, almost a year to the day since his exit from Derby County, according to the Daily Mirror [March 2nd, page 58].
The 56-year-old recently had a spell as coaching consultant at Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv, but returned to England at the end of December with the intention of getting back into management.
Oxford have been without a boss for the past six weeks since Pep Clotet’s sacking, and were snubbed by Craig Bellamy at the end of last month.
And it is possible McClaren could be tempted by a return to the U’s, where he spent three years as a player and began his coaching career.

However, McClaren is fond of a reunion, having had multiple spells at Derby, FC Twente and as England’s number two.
As well as landing the England manager’s job, the Yorkshireman won the League Cup with Middlesbrough – with whom he also reached the UEFA Cup final – the Dutch title with Twente and led Derby to the Championship play-off final.
