Steve Clarke is reportedly set to leave Aston Villa.
According to The Sun, Steve Clarke will leave Aston Villa having been told that he won’t be the man to replace Roberto Di Matteo as the club’s manager.
Di Matteo was sacked just over a week ago after only one win in 11 Championship games, and his departure thrust assistant manager Clarke into the role of caretaker manager.

With Di Matteo’s departure coming during the international break, Clarke hasn’t been forced into managing any games for Villa, but he has been in contention to land the job on a permanent basis.
The Sun reported last week that Clarke was in a straight fight with Steve Bruce for the job – but it’s a battle the Scot appears to have lost.

BBC Sport claim that Bruce will be appointed as Villa’s new manager later today, and many have been left wondering what the future holds for Clarke as a result.
Well, The Sun now state that Clarke has parted company with Villa, and is leaving the club having been told that he won’t be named as Di Matteo’s successor, with Bruce now looking to form his own coaching staff around him.

The 53-year-old, who last managed Reading in the Championship before being sacked in December 2015, has earned a strong reputation as a coach over the years, having worked with Chelsea, West Ham and Liverpool before venturing into management with West Bromwich Albion.
It remains to be seen what Clarke’s next move will be, but his short stay at Villa Park appears to have come to an end with the imminent appointment of manager Bruce.
