Report: Steve Bruce won’t consider Micah Richards for Aston Villa selection

Aston Villa defender Micah Richards played in a charity game this past weekend.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce will not consider Micah Richards for selection despite the former Manchester City defender taking part in a charity game at Celtic Park this past weekend, according to The Birmingham Mail.

Richards participated in ‘A Match for Cancer’ at Celtic Park – a charity game which saw teams of former Villa stars Stiliyan Petrov and James Milner face each other.

The Birmingham Mail has claimed that despite playing this past weekend, the 30-year-old central defender will not be considered for selection by manager Bruce.

Harsh stance?

Richards was not exactly great at Celtic’s home ground Celtic Park during the charity match, but the English defender is still an option for Villa.

If the 30-year-old is fit, then manager Bruce should at least consider him, especially as the Villans look short in central defence.

Mile Jedinak has been playing as a central defender, but the 34-year-old Australia international is a midfielder by trade and does not look particularly brilliant at the back.

Richards has been on the books of Villa since the summer of 2015 when he joined on a free transfer following his departure from Manchester City at the end of the 2014-15 campaign and when Tim Sherwood was in charge of the Villans.
