According to a report in the Chronicle, Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce feels that he can get even more out of Sean Longstaff by playing him further forward.

Longstaff was generally deployed as a deep lying midfielder by Newcastle when Rafael Benitez was in charge.

However, Bruce thinks that the youngster has the potential to hurt opposition defences if he plays in more advanced areas.

Longstaff showed his ability to score in Newcastle’s last pre-season friendly, as he lashed in a shot against Hibernian.

And Bruce now believes he can get even more out of Longstaff by giving him more freedom to get forward.

If Longstaff does start adding goals to his game then his value will sky rocket.

Newcastle have already been demanding big money for Longstaff amid interest from Manchester United this summer, as they want to keep hold of their prized youngster.

If Longstaff does start finding the back of the net then he will become one of the most complete midfielders in the Premier League, and Bruce’s plan should be exciting for Newcastle fans, if he manages to make it work.
