The Aston Villa boss brought McGregor to Hull in 2013.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce wants to sign Hull City’s Allan McGregor for a second time, according to the Daily Record.

Goalkeeper McGregor was a key member of the Tigers side that Bruce led to promotion from last season’s Championship, but has missed the first half of the current campaign through injury.

And though the 34-year-old is due to return in the New Year, he is likely to remain third choice behind Eldin Jakupovic and David Marshall, for whom Hull paid around £5 million in the summer.

Bruce, however, could come to the Scot’s aid, as he looks to put together another promotion-winning side, this time at Villa Park.

Summer recruit Pierluigi Gollini has proved hit and miss for the Villans so far and could perhaps benefit from playing understudy to someone who boasts more experience than his 21 years.

McGregor, who has made close to 500 professional appearances and won three league titles with Glasgow Rangers, certainly ticks that box.

The former Besiktas shot-stopper was brought to the KCOM Stadium by Bruce in 2013, and is not the only Hull player to be linked with a reunion with his former boss at Aston Villa, after Ahmed Elmohamady, Abel Hernandez and Jakupovic.
