Steve Bruce is now set to lead Aston Villa out at Wembley tomorrow.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Steve Bruce was twice just a game away from the sack at Aston Villa this season.

Bruce has guided Villa into the play offs this term, but it has not always been smooth sailing.

There has been doubts expressed about Bruce’s management, at times, from sections of the Villa Park crowd.

However, he seems to have won his critics around now, with Villa just one game away from the Premier League.

Bruce will lead his side out at Wembley on Saturday to take on Fulham, with a place in the top flight the prize for the victors, but things could have been very different according to the Mirror.

The tabloid claims that Bruce may well have lost his job had Villa lost to Barnsley and Middlesbrough in the league.

Instead, Villa beat Barnsley 3-0 at Oakwell, and won 1-0 against Boro at the Riverside to relieve the pressure on the claret and blues boss.

And Villa will be delighted that they stayed patient with Bruce, if he guides them to victory at the weekend.
