Jonjo Shelvey has not started a match for Newcastle United in the Premier League for over a month.

Dwight Gayle volley's the ball towards goal during the Newcastle United Training Session at the Newcastle United Training Centre on October 16, 2019 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is considering recalling Jonjo Shelvey, while Dwight Gayle also has a chance of starting this weekend.

Newcastle are set to be without Sean Longstaff for their match against West Ham United, which means that Bruce will have to make changes in midfield.

Shelvey has often been overlooked by the Magpies this season, especially in recent weeks.

The England international midfielder has not started a Premier League game for over a month now, but is said to be the leading candidate to step into replace Longstaff this weekend.

Shelvey could be required to start alongside Matty Longstaff, who appears to have forced his way into Bruce’s side’s starting line-up after his goal against Manchester United.

Jonjo Shelvey looks to pass the ball during the Newcastle United Warm Weather Training Session at La Finca Golf Resort on February 14, 2019 in Callosa de Segura, Spain.

Gayle, meanwhile, also appears to have a chance of being selected.

Joelinton has only scored one goal all season, and Gayle is reportedly coming closer and closer to taking his place.

If Newcastle can beat West Ham, they could make a significant move up the Premier League table and away from the relegation zone.
