Newcastle United travel to take on Leicester City this weekend.
According to the Daily Star, Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is considering major changes for this weekend’s game at Leicester City – including potentially dropping Miguel Almiron.
The Magpies drew 0-0 at home with Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, turning in an unconvincing display in what was already billed as a relegation six-pointer.
Bruce now takes his side to take on Leicester this weekend, and with points needed, the Newcastle boss may well ring the changes at the King Power Stadium.
It’s claimed that Bruce may choose to drop playmaker Almiron, who remains without a goal or an assist this season as his struggles continue.
The report notes that the £21million man may be sacrificed for Allan Saint-Maximin, but that isn’t the only change in Bruce’s mind.
It’s also noted that Bruce may move star performer Fabian Schar from centre back into holding midfield, bringing Federico Fernandez into the defence.
That doesn’t exactly smack of a team going on the front foot to pick up points, and taking Newcastle’s best performer and playing him in a new position doesn’t seem too sensible either.
Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey may also be dropped in favour of Sean Longstaff, meaning there may well be changes this weekend – but Almiron’s potential dropping is the big talking point.
