AC Milan boss Stefano Piolo rejected an approach from Tottenham Hotspur over the summer in favour of staying at the San Siro.

That’s according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport, who claim that Tottenham made a move to bring Pioli to North London this summer.

Fabio Paratici will know all about Pioli from his work in Italy, and seemingly fancied joining forces with him at Tottenham.

However, Pioli wasn’t interested in the move and decided to stay with Milan instead. Tottenham went on to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo instead.

The Serie A club are now believed to be offering Pioli a new contract given that he currently only earns just over £32,000-a-week in his current contract.

That’s around £1.7million a year. For comparison, Jose Mourinho earned around £15million-a-year before his sacking at Tottenham.

Pioli, 55, has had a long career in management over in Italy, taking charge of 13 clubs including the likes of Parma, Lazio, Inter Milan, Fiorentina and now Milan.

His record with Milan is pretty impressive, winning more than 54% of his games and securing a second-placed finish last season, taking Milan into the Champions League.

That may have been a key factor in Pioli’s decision to stay instead of going to Tottenham, as Spurs only have Europa Conference League action this coming season.

If things go wrong for Nuno, Pioli may be a name to keep an eye on for Tottenham, with Paratici seemingly a fan.
