According to the Scottish Mail on Sunday (25/04, back page), Celtic are actually at risk of losing Ryan Christie on the cheap this summer.

The report claims that Christie’s contract actually expires in January 2022 – not the summer of 2022 as previously reported.

That means Christie may look to use the European Championships as a shop window, as he can sign a pre-contract agreement with another club if he so wishes.

Celtic have been attempting to keep Christie, and still hope that he will stay once a new manager is appointed at Parkhead.

Still, this is a surprise development on Christie, as nobody really knew that his contract was coming to end midway through next season.

The 26-year-old often frustrates fans with his shooting from all ranges and all angles, but he has still racked up seven goals and 14 assists this season.

Capable of playing as number 10 or in from the right flank, Christie does have real quality on the ball and will surely attract Premier League interest off the back of this contract news.

90Min reported in January that Arsenal, Newcastle United and Leicester City are among the clubs tracking Christie, and they could land themselves a bargain this summer as Celtic sweat over the Scot’s contract.
