Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for their first game at their new stadium.
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur won’t open their new stadium against Arsenal on the 2nd of March for two main reasons.
Spurs picked up another win on Tuesday night, beating Chelsea 1-0 in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, with Harry Kane’s first-half penalty enough for the win.
Tottenham have started 2019 with three wins in all competitions, and will hope to keep that run going against Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend.
Spurs fans are enjoying their football right now, but there is one lingering problem; the saga with the club’s new stadium.
Tottenham were supposed to move into their new stadium back in September, but continued delays mean that they are still playing at Wembley Stadium.
After a recent successful test event, Spurs are closing in on their big move, with March now scheduled for the swtich – but it seemingly won’t be against Arsenal on March 2nd.
The Daily Mail note that Spurs are reluctant to open the new stadium against the Gunners for two reasons; potential crowd trouble in such a bitter rivalry, and the fear of opening the new stadium with a defeat against their biggest rivals.
Games later in March seem more realistic, and given that both reasons are pretty fair from a Tottenham perspective, it’s hard to argue against their stance – even if opening up against Arsenal would be one of the Premier League’s biggest moments of recent times.
