Report states the warning West Ham have told Declan Rice about his contract

West Ham United are still attempting to tie Declan Rice down to a new contract.

According to the Daily Star, West Ham United have told Declan Rice to sign the contract on the table – or there will be no other offer until the summer.

The Hammers have been somewhat patchy this season, losing their first four games before picking up seven points against Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United, and then losing at Brighton and Hove Albion.

However, one of their constants of late has been youngster Rice, who has become a mainstay of the West Ham side under Manuel Pellegrini thanks to a series of mature displays.

The holding midfielder, who can also play at centre back, is at the centre of an international tug-of-war between England and the Republic of Ireland, and there are more off-field issues for Rice to work through.

West Ham have been attempting to extend Rice’s contract, as it is currently scheduled to expire at the end of next season, but they have so far been unable to agree a deal.

Now, the Daily Star report that West Ham are offering Rice a deal which will end up being worth around £46,000-a-week, a remarkable increase for the youngster, and have even handed him something of an ultimatum.

It’s claimed that West Ham have told Rice to either sign the contract or there will be no other offer until the summer, when he will be entering the final year of his deal.

That leaves Rice pondering his next move, but with so much money on offer from the Hammers, staying in East London may be the best plan for Rice, even with other Premier League clubs thought to be keen.
