According to Meczyki in Poland, Celtic abandoned their interest in Lech Poznan right back Robert Gumny after crashing out of the Champions League qualifiers.

The Bhoys saw both Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa leave the club when their contracts came to an end in June, and they needed to get busy in the market to replace them.

Hatem Abd Elhamed arrived from Hapoel Be’er Sheva, and just days before the transfer deadline, Celtic landed Stoke City’s Moritz Bauer on loan for the season.

Celtic didn’t even stop there, securing youngsters Jeremie Frimpong and Lee O’Connor from Manchester City and Manchester United respectively, both of whom can play at right back.

A host of other right backs were linked with Celtic over the course of the summer, but reports in Poland now claim that the Bhoys abandoned their interest in Poznan star Gumny.

It’s stated that Celtic were keen to land the youngster, but when they were dumped out of the Champions League qualifiers by CFR Cluj last month, they abandoned a possible move.

It’s fair to assume that this hints at Celtic deciding to pursue a more economically safe option in Bauer, as they didn’t want to spend on Gumny without Champions League football and finances.

That may be annoying for Celtic fans, as Gumny is a fast, skilful, attacking right back with a bright future ahead of him at 21, but he may be a target Celtic come back to once Bauer’s loan stay comes to an end.
