According to the London Evening Standard, Liverpool have decided that RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner wouldn’t receive the game time he wants.
It’s claimed that Chelsea have swooped in to agree a deal for Werner, with his £53million release clause set to be paid by the Blues.
Liverpool were thought to be leading the race for Werner, but they’re now set to miss out. Many have been left wondering just why the Reds are backing away at the crucial moment.
This new report states that Liverpool don’t intend to rival Chelsea for Werner, and won’t attempt to hijack their deal any time soon.
Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are all staying put, for Liverpool think they couldn’t offer the playing time Werner would want.
Jurgen Klopp now looks set to miss out on his compatriot. Not only that, but Liverpool will now have to watch him turn out for a Premier League rival.

Liverpool fans are understandably frustrated. They need to add an attacker to aid there vaunted front three, and Werner had shown the quality to be that player.
His record of 31 goals and 12 assists in 40 games this season has been hugely impressive, and he looks to be an ideal fit for Liverpool given his pace and pressing ability.
Instead, he’s off to Chelsea – and Klopp will have to go back to the drawing board in search of a new attacker this summer.
