Queens Park Rangers are in the market for a new manager.
According to the London Evening Standard, Tim Sherwood is still the favourite for the Queens Park Rangers job – despite a five-man shortlist being formed.
Steve McClaren lost his job as R’s boss last week after a 2-1 home defeat to Bolton Wanderers, capping off a dismal start to 2019.
With one win in 14 games, QPR have been woeful since the turn of the year, and it’s no great surprise that McClaren has lost his job – less than a year since making the move to Loftus Road.
John Eustace remains in caretaker charge of the club after a 4-0 defeat to Norwich City on Saturday, but it seems that efforts to land a permanent manager are being amped up.
The London Evening Standard report that a five-man shortlist has been established, but former Aston Villa and Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood is still the favourite.
Sherwood is joined on the shortlist by Rui Almeida, Gareth Ainsworth, Lee Bowyer and now Michael Appleton, who has held talks about a move to West London.
Sherwood is close to Les Ferdinand, meaning he has strong ties to the QPR hierarchy, but with more than three years out of management, how he would be received is another matter.
Ainsworth is a QPR favourite from his playing days, whilst Bowyer has been impressing at Charlton. Appleton is a respected coach but has a patchy managerial record, whilst Troyes boss Almeida is the left-field choice, meaning there’s a mix of options for QPR to consider.
