West Ham reportedly want to make the Sunderland defender their next major signing.

The Sunderland Echo reports that no offers have been made for Lamine Kone, despite speculation linking the defender with a move to West Ham United.

West Ham were last week said to be eyeing the Sunderland man as their next major signing, according to The Mirror.

It was claimed that the Hammers believed they could get Kone for ‘just over half’ the Mackems’ ‘£20 million’ asking price.

But an approach from West Ham is yet to materialise, it seems, and The Sunderland Echo reports that Kone could still have a future at the Stadium of Light after he impressed new boss Simon Grayson with his attitude, while the Ivorian earned plaudits for his performance during Sunderland’s opening day draw with Derby County.

West Ham’s need for a new centre-back is far from urgent, with four already on the books at the London Stadoum.

Nevertheless, two of those – Winston Reid and James Collins – have been linked with moves away from the Hammers in recent weeks.
