According to the Scottish Mail on Sunday (25/04, p155), Rangers are looking to sign a new midfielder this summer.
The report claims that Rangers are looking to lower the age of their squad, and that’s why Oostende’s 24-year-old attacker Fashion Sakala is set to arrive as veteran Jermain Defoe leaves.
Steven Gerrard and co are looking to other areas too, and a new midfielder is on the wish list as Ross Wilson lines up potential signings.
The reason for wanting a new midfielder is that Ryan Jack’s injuries have been a big worry this season, and Gerrard wants additional cover.
The 29-year-old has been a favourite of Gerrard’s over the last three years, but has been limited to 19 league appearances this term and 24 in all competitions.
With Bongani Zungu barely making an impact on loan this season, Gerrard now wants another midfielder to come in an add some depth.

Gerrard does also have Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Joe Aribo and Scott Arfield, whilst Bournemouth’s Nnamdi Ofoborh is arriving on a free transfer this summer.
That isn’t stopping Rangers though, and with younger players wanted, expect to see Rangers target Jack’s eventual heir this summer.
