According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United’s priority in the transfer window is to ‘add legs’ in midfield.
The Magpies are allegedly planning for the transfer market with their current hierarchy, with a takeover now seemingly unlikely as things stand.
Still, there is some money to spend this summer, and the top priority is to bolster their midfield with more energy.
Three targets are named in the report, starting with free agent Arnaud Lusamba. He has been released by Nice, and could be signed for free.
Lusamba would add depth to the Newcastle midfield without breaking the bank, but the other targets suggested are a little more high-profile.
Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare is believed to still be on the Newcastle radar, despite him turning down a move to St James’ Park in January.

Steve Bruce also fancies raiding Aston Villa for John McGinn. Bruce brought the Scot to Villa in 2018, and it’s no great surprise that he wants a reunion.
Yet with Villa achieving Premier League survival, it’s hard to see them selling to Newcastle this summer, meaning Bruce may have to look elsewhere.
