According to The Liverpool Echo, Liverpool and Sporting Director Michael Edwards effectively managed to secure Diogo Jota’s first 12 months at the club for free.
This was down to the ‘favourable’ payment terms agreed to by Wolves when Ki-Jana Hoever moved to Molineux in a deal worth up to £13.5 million.
Even if Liverpool did have to shell out the £41 million that the BBC believe they agreed to give Wolves all at once, it still would’ve seemed like a bargain given his start to life at Anfield.
The former Atletico Madrid attacker has already netted seven goals in ten games for the Premier League champions, including a hat-trick against Atalanta in the Champions League.
Jota has also netted winners against Sheffield United and West Ham in the Premier League, and he is proving to be worth his weight in gold as Roberto Firmino struggles.

The Portugal international is Jurgen Klopp’s fourth-biggest signing for Liverpool according to the BBC.
Ahead of him, only Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Naby Keita cost more than the ex-Porto star.

Of course, it goes without saying that Liverpool will have to pay up eventually.
However, Edwards’ ability to negotiate a deal which sees the Reds pay barely anything for Jota for a year is brilliant business amid a global pandemic, which has surely hit Liverpool’s finances in some manner.
