It seems a long time ago, but Liverpool were linked with a move for Kylian Mbappe as recently as April.
According to Le10 Sport in France, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp even phoned Mbappe’s father to ask if his son would be game to play for the Premier League champions at some point in the future.
The Paris Saint-Germain player added fuel to the flames himself a month later when he referred to Liverpool as a ‘winning machine’ in an interview with The Mirror.
Speculation about the 21-year-old moving to Merseyside went a little cold after that, partially because they struggled to afford the £47.5 million needed to sign Timo Werner and therefore a move for Mbappe made absolutely zero sense, but it could be about to start up again.
Liverpool are mentioned in a report from The Times this morning, which claims that Mbappe has told PSG that he wants to leave them next summer.
The English publication adds that the France international is eyeing up either a move to the Premier League or La Liga.
Mbappe, a £165 million signing by the Ligue 1 champions in 2017, snubbed moves to Manchester City and Real Madrid back then [The Times], but Liverpool are now top dogs in English football and it’ll be fascinating to see if they would be interested next summer if the player does indeed have his heart set on leaving the French capital.
