Samson was signed by the now Sunderland manager Jack Ross.

St Mirren’s first choice goalkeeper is set to retire from football and become Sunderland’s goalkeeper coach, according to the Scottish Sun.
Craig Samson is said to have played his final game for St Mirren, after starting all 13 of their Scottish Premiership matches this season.
And it is claimed he is ready to accept Sunderland’s offer, with an announcement possible as early as Tuesday afternoon.
Samson is currently in his second spell at St Mirren, having been brought back to the club by the now Sunderland manager Jack Ross at the start of last season.

Sunderland are looking to fill the void left by Jimmy Walker, who quit last week to take up the same position at Ipswich Town, and in doing so move closer to his family.
The report fails to state whether the 34-year-old could be registered as a Mackems player, although the earliest that could happen is in the January transfer window.
