Report: Spurs won’t sign Trippier replacement, avoid £20m Aarons move

Tottenham Hotspur have allowed Kieran Trippier to join Atletico Madrid.

According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur don’t plan to sign a right back to replace Kieran Trippier following his move to Atletico Madrid.

Spurs have today confirmed that Trippier has been allowed to join Atletico, ending his four-year stay in North London with a shock move to Spain.

Trippier, 28, has been a key part of the Spurs side in the last two seasons, but he has now been allowed to move on, leaving many Tottenham fans to assume a replacement is coming in.

However, it’s claimed that Mauricio Pochettino won’t be signing a new right back, having decided to ignore a move for Norwich City’s Max Aarons because the Canaries wanted £20million – but he’s now signed a new contract anyway.

Pochettino will instead put his faith in Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth at right back, with Serge Aurier out of the picture as things stand.

Walker-Peters, 22, has been waiting for his big chance, and having shown some promise last season, this may now be the golden opportunity for him to step up.

He’s quick and attack-minded and he has real potential, so whilst there are concerns about his defensive ability, he at least deserves a consistent run in the team to prove himself.

Spurs should keep Aarons on the radar for the long-term, but it seems that Pochettino will put the money from Trippier’s sale elsewhere and put his faith in his existing options.
