Report: Spurs, West Ham and Aston Villa scouting striker Alex Marshall

Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Aston Villa are reportedly all amongst the sides interested in young striker Alex Marshall.

It has been reported by the Sunday People (14/10; page 51) that Jamaica international Alex Marshall is in line for a move to England, with Tottenham, West Ham and Aston Villa among the sides to have scouted the striker.

Marshall currently plays for Cavalier in Jamaica’s top flight, and boasts a decent record with eight league goals coming in 33 appearances since the start of last season. He also has a handful of caps for his national team.

The Sunday People (14/10; page 51) reports that five English sides have taken a look at the 20-year-old, who has been compared with Raheem Sterling, with Liverpool and Leicester City joining Spurs, the Hammers and the Villans in monitoring the youngster.

Based on Marshall’s record, none of the interested sides can expect the forward to be anything like the finished article at this stage of his career. But there is clearly something there to be excited about given the queue of clubs interested in signing him.

Villa would arguably appear to be the better option in the short-term for Marshall. Trying to break into a Championship side should be an easier task for the striker, and the Villans’ first-choice forward is only on loan at the club so that may present an opportunity for Marshall much sooner.

Meanwhile, West Ham and Tottenham arguably do not have the striker depth that they would like. Obviously, Harry Kane is one of the Premier League’s best, but Mauricio Pochettino has few options to pick from after the Englishman.

The Hammers seem to be in a similar boat once you take Marko Arnautovic out of the equation. Manuel Pellegrini has a lot of alternatives when all of his forwards are available, but there is unquestionably an opportunity for a player to quickly make themselves second-choice at the London Stadium.

It remains to be seen though, whether any of the interested sides decide that they have seen enough in Marshall to confirm their interest with a concrete bid.
