Report: Spurs want to sell winger for £8m – but player wants to stay

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly willing to let Aaron Lennon go in January.

The speculation surrounding Aaron Lennon’s future has been plentiful in recent months.

The winger’s limited role within Spurs’ squad has raised question marks over his use to new boss Mauricio Pochettino, at the same time prompting the issue of whether he is available for a move elsewhere.

In the summer transfer window, Tottenham did not let the winger go. Now, though, talk has turned to whether that just prolonged the inevitable outcome of him leaving, with a January move touted.

And, according to the London Evening Standard, the north London club want to sell him in the winter.

Indeed, the newspaper claims that Spurs will try to offload the winger for £8-10 million. The one stumbling block? The 27-year-old himself reportedly prefers to stay.

Their report is interestingly timed, however, considering a recent story (in the link above) that Tottenham had rejected a bid from the Middle East for the winger, which made it seem more like it was the player who would have preferred to move, with the club preventing it from happening.

Lennon is also earning £55,000 per week – something that could also put potential suitors off. But Lennon’s insistence behind closed doors that he can break back into the Spurs team seems to be the main reason behind him still being at the club, say the Standard.
