Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Mariano Diaz.

According to El Chiringuito in Spain, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz this summer.

It’s no great surprise that Tottenham are pursuing another centre forward. After all, Fernando Llorente is now a free agent, and competition is needed for Harry Kane.

A number of strikers have been linked with the club already this summer, and reports in Spain now suggest that Diaz has moved near the top of their list.

It’s stated that Diaz wants to stay with Real, but they want to cash in after signing Luka Jovic, whilst they also have Karim Benzema, Borja Mayoral and Raul De Tomas.

De Tomas may go, but Diaz is expendable and would command a hefty fee if Real choose to sell him for a second time, having only offloaded him to Lyon in 2017, only to re-sign him a year later.

When Diaz, 25, went to Lyon – alongside new Tottenham signing Tanguy Ndombele – he smashed 21 goals in 48 games, the kind of goalscoring record Spurs would love to add.

The Spaniard – who can also play for the Dominican Republic – first joined the Espanyol ranks when Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was there as a player in the early 2000’s, though it would be something quite remarkable if Pochettino remembers a young Diaz from that time.

OK Diario isn’t a top Spanish source, but they seem confident that Diaz is a target. Real and Spurs may well be in talks about a deal for Christian Eriksen, and it would be interesting to see whether Real offer up Diaz in a part-exchange move, potentially handing the striker a reunion with Ndombele.
