According to The Telegraph, Tottenham are interested in signing Sven Botman this summer, who was the No.1 target for Newcastle in January.
What’s the story?
Well, Newcastle submitted two bids for the Spurs target, and were considering a third on deadline day, such was their desperation to sign him.
Eventually, Lille held firm, as nobody was willing to meet their £46m asking price – not even Newcastle, despite the fact he was their No.1 target according to The Telegraph.
Fabio Paratici – Director of Football at Tottenham – is looking to bring young central defenders to N17, and Botman is in his sights.
AC Milan also hold a strong interest in the Dutchman, who was pivotal as Lille wrestled the Ligue 1 title off Paris Saint-Germain last season.
So far this season, the 22-year-old has been a colossal figure once again.
Botman has made 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals while also providing one assist.
Tottenham should hope Newcastle go down

In our view, Tottenham should hope for Newcastle to be relegated if they want to sign Botman.
If the Magpies avoid the drop, then it seems they have a fantastic chance of signing the towering Netherlands Under-21 international this summer.
Botman himself admitted that a move to Newcastle “would be very nice” and revealed he is hoping to leave Lille at the end of the season.
He also said there is a “nice project” going on at Newcastle.

In our view, that should worry Spurs.
Eddie Howe has the funds to beat Antonio Conte to Botman, and it sounds as if the defender is keen on a move to Tyneside.
If Spurs can qualify for the Champions League, that may sway things in their favour, but if they don’t and Newcastle survive, we think Botman will become a Magpie.
