According to a report from Football London, Vincent Janssen is set to seal his move away from Tottenham in the next few days, with Monterrey closing in on completing a deal for the striker.
Janssen’s exit seemed inevitable especially after he was left out of the club’s pre-season tour squad. He has found himself out of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for the majority of his time on Tottenham’s books, so it was no surprise that the Dutchman was missing from the group.
Football London is reporting that the £17 million signing is now closing in on a move to Mexico, with Monterrey expected to finalise a deal within the coming days.
It is not clear what the fee will be, but it looks to be the best decision for all parties for Janssen to seal a permanent move away, with Football London reporting that his contract with Spurs has just one year left to run.
While it seems difficult to imagine that Tottenham will get anything like the money that they paid for the striker, his exit could still provide a financial boost ahead of the final couple of weeks of the window.
Pochettino has made some ruthless decisions this summer – offloading Janssen is arguably not exactly one of them – so it will be interesting to see whether these player sales facilitate one final surprise before the deadline passes.
