Tottenham Hotspur’s Reo Griffiths has been targeted by RB Leipzig.
According to The Mirror, any RB Leipzig deal for Tottenham Hotspur talent Reo Griffiths would only be on loan, but Paul Mitchell’s presence means deals between the two clubs could be regular.
Griffiths, 17, started out as a winger before becoming a striker, and he has been a regular for Tottenham at youth level as he looks to become a first-team player with the North London club.
However, reports this week have linked Griffiths with a move to Germany, as Bundesliga side RB Leipzig – known for signing some of the top young players around – are understood to be keen on signing Griffiths this summer.
Despite concerns that Spurs could lose Griffiths for good, The Mirror claim that any deal would only be on loan, with ex-Spurs recruitment chief Paul Mitchell – now serving a similar role with Leipzig.
An interesting partnership
Whilst Mitchell left Spurs somewhat acrimoniously having resigned and then gone through a lengthy notice period, it seems that his presence at Leipzig could benefit both clubs.
It’s believed that Leipzig are targeting a number of Tottenham talents for loan deals, with a view to aiding their development with temporary switches to Germany, where the likes of Timo Werner, Emil Forsberg and Naby Keita have become stars.
Leipzig recently took Everton forward Ademola Lookman on loan with no clause to sign him permanently, and Tottenham may find it beneficial to send Griffiths and more out to a top Bundesliga team whose mission objective is to develop young players.
Cameron Carter-Vickers and Josh Onomah have both spent time out on loan in the Championship this season, as has Marcus Edwards, but having a strong link with a Europa League side like Leipzig could allow Spurs to house their young players in one place – and that may be hugely appealing, especially with Mitchell involved.
