Newcastle, Spurs and Wolves face competition for Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand from Manchester City.
Manchester City are still interested in signing Ryan Bertrand this summer, reports the Telegraph, with Southampton facing the realistic prospect of relegation from the Premier League.
Bertrand is one of the players expected to leave St Mary’s if the Saints do go down to the Championship, with the Hampshire club only outside the bottom three on goal difference with two matches left to play.
The England international has been on City’s radar for some time, with Benjamin Mendy having spent the majority of the season injured and manager Pep Guardiola having to use players out of position in the role as a result.
Bad news for others
This latest rumour is unlikely to be greeted in a positive fashion at Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who have also been linked with Bertrand by the Express.
Apparently it would cost around £25m to sign the 28-year-old; which presumably wouldn’t be a problem for the Citizens, who spent £52m (BBC) on Mendy in 2017.
Spurs view Bertrand as the ideal player to replace Danny Rose, who has been strongly linked with an exit to join Manchester United at the end of the current campaign.
