According to a report from TuttoMercatoWeb, Spurs and Napoli agreeing a swap deal involving both Kieran Trippier and Amadou Diawara had been considered a ‘possibility’ ahead of the summer, but is now looking unlikely.

Trippier’s future at Tottenham appears to be somewhat up in the air. The Daily Mail reports that both Napoli and Atletico Madrid are interested in the right-back, with both willing to offer around £15 million for the England international.

The Daily Express has suggested however, that Spurs want £40 million for Trippier. So it is perhaps no surprise that the Serie A side have now been linked with potentially making a bid that would have seen one of their players join Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

TuttoMercatoWeb reports that an offer that would see Trippier head to Stadio San Paolo and Diawara move in the opposite direction had been touted, but it now appears that that option is unlikely.

It is not clear which club hoped to bring the idea to the table or whether discussions ever really got off the ground. Diawara has only made 13 Serie A appearances this term, and has played another four games in the Europa League.

He boasts a lot of potential, and with Tottenham arguably needing to bolster their options in the middle of the park, he may be the kind of player that some Spurs fans would like to see targeted.

But it does currently appear that if he does join Spurs in the coming months, it will not be as part of a deal that sees Trippier head to Naples.
