Tottenham are reportedly set to offer a new deal to defender Jan Vertonghen.

According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are set to offer a new contract to central defender Jan Vertonghen.
Spurs have tied down a host of key figures to new deals over the last year, with manager Mauricio Pochettino, defender Kevin Wimmer, midfielders Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Mousa Dembele as well as youngster Joshua Onomah all penning new contracts in the last year.

The work doesn’t stop there though, as after completing three deadline day signings in Pau Lopez, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Moussa Sissoko, Spurs are turning their attention back to keeping their current players at the club.
The London Evening Standard report that Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela will be targeted for new deals imminently, as will defender Jan Vertonghen, with all three allegedly keen to stay at White Hart Lane.

Vertonghen, 29, joined Spurs from Ajax back in the summer of 2012, and has been a key part of the Tottenham defence ever since – though it’s only since last summer that he’s found his partner at the back.
After some shaky spells alongside the likes of Michael Dawson, Vlad Chiriches and Younes Kaboul, Vertonghen was partnered with his former Ajax team-mate and fellow Belgian international Toby Alderweireld, alllowing Vertonghen to flourish.

The centre back certainly deserves a new deal and should be given the chance to continue his superb partnership with Alderweireld into his 30’s, with Tottenham now keen to get a new deal secured in the coming weeks.
It’s claimed that Vertonghen earns just £40,000-a-week, putting him behind Hugo Lloris, Lamela, Mousa Dembele and Harry Kane according to a recent report from The Telegraph – and he certainly deserves to be paid like one of Tottenham’s top players judging by his performances since signing from Ajax, but particularly under Mauricio Pochettino.
