Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly pushing for Napoli’s Amadou Diawara.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport, Tottenham Hotspur have set their hearts on a move for Napoli midfielder Amadou Diawara – and he could well be available.

Diawara, 20, was born in Guinea but started out his career with San Marino in Italy’s lower leagues, before being snapped up by Bologna in 2015.

One superb season there earned him a 2016 move to Napoli, and whilst he has been touted for stardom, Diawara hasn’t quite managed to nail down a regular starting spot under Maurizio Sarri.

Allan, Jorginho and Marek Hamsik have been Sarri’s first-choice trio in midfield, with Polish international Piotr Zielinski also ahead of Diawara, meaning the youngster has started just ten games in all competitions this season.

Spurs are believed to be in the market for a new midfielder as they pursue Mousa Dembele’s heir in the heart of midfield, and Diawara appears to be their chosen target.

Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport report that Spurs have set their sights on Diawara and are determined to land him this summer, with Mauricio Pochettino and co seemingly seeing huge potential in the young talent.

It’s added that Napoli are preparing for his exit by starting negotiations with Serie A rivals Sampdoria for midfielder Lucas Torreira ahead of the summer transfer window.

That would seemingly pave the way for Spurs to land Diawara, and whilst he may immediately walk into a similar situation in terms of playing time, he would be developed to eventually take over from Dembele in what is a huge role in the Spurs side.
