Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Alfie Mawson and Ryan Bertrand.

According to The Express, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in launching a £65million double swoop for Swansea City centre back Alfie Mawson and Southampton left back Ryan Bertrand.

Spurs will be in the market for new signings this summer as they move into their new stadium, but they also face risking experienced players like Toby Alderwiereld and Danny Rose.

If they go, a new centre back and new left back would be needed, and reports suggest that boss Mauricio Pochettino has his eye on two English replacements.

The Express claim that Tottenham want Swansea City centre back Alfie Mawson, who will cost around £40million – but Spurs don’t currently seem put off by such a huge valuation.

Mawson, 24, has impressed in the Premier League since joining Swansea from Barnsley back in 2016, and looks set for a bright future, which could lie with Tottenham if they can strike a deal this summer.

Meanwhile, 28-year-old left back Bertrand has been a steady, consistent performer for the Saints following a 2014 switch from Chelsea, and would be a sensible replacement at £25million for England teammate Rose if he does leave Spurs.

Both players would be returning to London having been born in the capital, but it seems unlikely that these two signings at such a huge price would be enough to appease concerned fans.

There is a belief that Spurs need to sign top quality players in order to move forward, and Mawson and Bertrand – as solid as they may be for their current clubs – are battling relegation from the Premier League, and may not quite be the calibre of player Tottenham fans are hoping for as the club prepare to move into their new stadium.
