According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are close to signing Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama in a deal worth around £11m.

Spurs are expected to sign a striker to support Harry Kane in the final third, but manager Mauricio Pochettino may look to strengthen another area of his team with his first signing of the summer.

The Mirror claim that Spurs are poised to land Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama, after talks between the two clubs accelerated in the last 24 hours.

It’s reported that an £11m deal is close to being sealed, with the Saints reluctantly accepting that the Kenyan star wants to reunite with Pochettino at White Hart Lane.

It was Pochettino who brought Wanyama to the Premier League back in 2013, after the 24-year-old midfielder had starred in Scotland for Celtic – and he continued to impress with some dominant performances in the Premier League, where his strength and aggression in front of the Southampton defence caught the eye.

With Spurs needing some depth in Eric Dier’s role – protecting the back four in defensive midfield – Wanyama appears to be the perfect candidate having trained in that role under Pochettino for a season at Southampton.

Now, a reunion appears to be on the cards, with Pochettino landing one of his favourite players from over the years, and Wanyama will certainly give Tottenham some depth as they head back into the Champions League next season.
