According to an exclusive report from Calcio Napoli 24, Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to offer €38million (£33million) for Napoli midfielder Amadou Diawara.

Spurs rarely do January business under Mauricio Pochettino, and that has proven to be the case again this time around, with no new arrivals for Tottenham as the deadline closes in.

Pochettino may have some areas of concern in mind though, and a poor season so far for Mousa Dembele means that finding somebody who can play his role in midfield – driving forward through the middle of the park to support the attack and open up the game – may be a priority.

Now, an exclusive report from Calcio Napoli 24 claims that Tottenham are interested in Napoli central midfielder Amadou Diawara, and could offer around £33million to secure his signature.

It’s stated that Tottenham came calling for Diawara in 2017, but were fended off by Napoli, only for Pochettino’s men to seemingly return with a considerable proposal this time around.

Diawara, 20, impressed with Bologna following a 2015 switch from San Marino, and he lasted just one season there before being snapped up by Napoli in the summer of 2016.

The Guinean star – who could yet play for Italy internationally – has starred under Maurizio Sarri, and Spurs now appear to be taking a strong interest in him as they consider life after Dembele, and whilst Napoli will again attempt to fend them off, it’s claimed that Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira has been eyed as a potential replacement.

Diawara has shown that he can play in a similar box-to-box role as Dembele, but with just one senior goal to his name, he may receive the same criticisms about not offering enough in the final third.
