According to The Telegraph, Tottenham have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign Southampton maestro James Ward-Prowse.
What’s the story?
Well, Aston Villa have been chasing the 8-cap England international for a large period of the summer, and Spurs have now joined them.
The Athletic believe Dean Smith’s side bid £25m for Ward-Prowse, an offer which was rejected by Southampton.
Now, Tottenham are preparing a move, according to The Telegraph, as are the Villans who don’t seem to be taking no for an answer.
It is said that Mauricio Pochettino wanted Ward-Prowse during his time in N17, and the 26-year-old remains highly rated at Tottenham.
In Aston Villa’s case, the Southampton No.8 is Smith’s No.1 target to bolster his midfield.
James Ward-Prowse would be a fantastic signing

There’s a reason Tottenham and Aston Villa are fighting over Ward-Prowse.
Injuries are very common in the modern game, so Ward-Prowse’s availability makes him a very attractive option.
He featured in all 38 Premier League games last season, while his attacking output was exceptional for a midfielder.

Ward-Prowse – who has made 269 Premier League appearances in total – scored eight goals, while also providing seven assists.
At 26, he is also on the cusp of his peak years, so Spurs and Villa are making a move at just the right time – he’s also a homegrown player.
Southampton would be mad to sell him, but if anyone lands Ward-Prowse this summer, it will be a fantastic signing in every sense.
