Report: Spurs name price for Danny Rose – but could Mourinho have £25m trick up his sleeve?

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want £45million for Danny Rose.

According to the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur have slapped a £45million asking price on left back Danny Rose amid strong interest from Manchester United.

Spurs swooped to land Rose from Leeds United back in 2007, and he arrived as a highly-rated left winger – but he has transformed his game in North London.

Now 27, Rose has become arguably English football’s top left back, starring with his pace and attacking ability having developed rapidly over the last three-and-a-half years under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, given that Rose told The Sun back in August that he was interested in a move back up north, speculation has surrounded Rose’s future this term – especially given his lack of consistent playing time under Pochettino.

Those rumours now continue, as the Daily Star report that Manchester United and manager Jose Mourinho want to land Rose in January, and Spurs will agree to a deal in January worth £45million.

That’s a similar price to what Spurs sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City for over the summer, and whilst United have money to spend, it remains to be seen whether they splash out such a huge fee in the middle of the season, especially with Ashley Young starring at left back.

One way Mourinho and United could drive the price down is to offer up Luke Shaw in part-exchange, just days after The Mirror reported that United have slapped a £20million asking price on his head.

Shaw thrived under Spurs boss Pochettino at Southampton, and with murmurings of interest from Tottenham, Mourinho hay well attempt to reach the £45million asking price for Rose by offering £25million plus Shaw – but whether Spurs would value Shaw similarly remains to be seen.
