According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen snubbed a late move to Stoke City last week – and manager Mauricio Pochettino is allegedly ‘unimpressed’.
Spurs swooped to land Fernando Llorente from Swansea City last week, with the Spanish target man now set to serve as cover and competition for Harry Kane in the Tottenham attack.
With Son Heung-min impressing as a striker last season when Kane was injured, Vincent Janssen may now be Tottenham’s fourth-choice striker, but that wasn’t enough for him to leave the club.
The Mirror report that Stoke City – as well as West Bromwich Albion and Brighton and Hove Albon – made bids to sign Janssen before last Thursday’s transfer deadline, but couldn’t tempt the striker to leave.
It’s noted that Daniel Levy told Janssen that Tottenham would freeze him out if he didn’t leave, but he decided to stay put as he didn’t want to leave a top club, with manager Mauricio Pochettino described as being ‘unimpressed’.
Janssen, 23, signed for Tottenham last summer after impressing in his native Netherlands with AZ Alkmaar, scoring 31 goals in 49 games for the Eredivisie side.
However, he couldn’t match that record with Spurs, as he found the net just six times in all competitions last season, with only two of those goals coming from open play.
With Janssen refusing to leave despite Levy and Pochettino seemingly attempting to tell him that he won’t play much of a role this season, the striker now faces a difficult four months – and Spurs really won’t be happy with that, as his value will diminish.
