Stoke City are reportedly set to sign Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer is set to join Stoke City, and will undergo a medical on Monday ahead of completing his move.

Spurs snapped up centre back Davinson Sanchez in a big-money move from Ajax just days ago, pushing Wimmer even further down the pecking order under Mauricio Pochettino.

Wimmer, 24, arrived in North London back in the summer of 2015, signing from Bundesliga side Koln to boost Pochettino’s options at the back, but he hasn’t been able to establish himself as anything more than cover.

The Austrian international has played just 15 Premier League games in his two years under Pochettino, and with Sanchez now on board to compete with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, Wimmer is set to leave Tottenham in pursuit of first-team football.

The Telegraph report that Wimmer is poised to complete a £15million move to Premier League rivals Stoke City, and will undergo a medical on Monday ahead of finalising his move to the bet365 Stadium.

It’s claimed that Stoke finally agreed a deal for Wimmer this weekend, and he has travelled up to the Midlands today in order to put the finishing touches on his move to join Mark Hughes’ men.

Having previously been bound for West Brom, Wimmer will seemingly become Stoke’s latest summer signing on Monday, joining the likes of Darren Fletcher and Jese Rodriguez.

Wimmer’s move now boosts Hughes’ options even more, as he also signed centre backs Kurt Zouma and Bruno Martins Indi to challenge with Ryan Shawcross, and Wimmer can now give Stoke four impressive central defenders to choose from.
