Tottenham Hotspur may still fight to keep Fernando Llorente.
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur are still considering keeping Fernando Llorente at the club despite missing the deadline to activate a contract extension.
Llorente, 34, joined Spurs from Swansea City back on deadline day in August 2017, having hit 15 goals in his first Premier League season with the Swans.
The Spanish target man was seen as the ideal cover for Harry Kane, but scored just five goals in all competitions, sparking rumours about an exit last summer.
Spurs persisted with Llorente, and he’s actually proven very useful this term, recording eight goals and five assists in all competitions, including some key late strikes.
Llorente is out of contract this summer though, and the writing appeared to be on the wall on Monday, as Spurs missed the deadline to activate a contract extension in his deal.
However, Sky Sports claim that Spurs are still considering fresh talks with Llorente to keep him at the club, meaning this situation is far from over.
Yet Llorente can talk to other clubs now, and having chosen not to activate that clause, Tottenham have taken a massive risk, potentially losing Llorente when they still have hopes of keeping him.
Today alone, the Daily Mail reported that AC Milan, Marseille, Roma and Valencia are all keen on Llorente, and Tottenham really face the prospect of seeing the target man walk away for nothing unless they can come up with a new offer soon.
