Marcus Thuram could be Fabio Paratici’s first signing at Tottenham Hotspur as the North London club have now opened talks with him, RMC Sport suggest.

The news broke last night that Tottenham had made their move to sign the Borussia Monchengladbach attacker, as Paratici seeks to make a big impact.

Not only has Tottenham’s new sporting director seemingly picked Spurs’ new manager in Paulo Fonseca, but he has also been eyeing up targets.

Thuram is now said to be right at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist heading into the summer.

The Frenchman, who was once valued at £44 million (El Pais) is interestingly rated very highly by Arsene Wenger, who said to Der Spiegel: “Technically, he (Henry) could do everything, however there is one player in the Bundesliga who reminds me of him — Marcus Thuram at Borussia Moenchengladbach,”

RMC suggest that Thuram is expected to leave and his talks with Tottenham are advanced.

What would his role be at Spurs?

His arrival at Spurs would give their new manager even more attacking options to pick from, although where he ideally fits isn’t clear.

Thuram naturally plays on the same side as Heung-Min Son, so it is hard to see him being a permanent starter there, and Spurs also have Steven Bergwijn in reserve to play off the flank.

Thuram is versatile enough to play right across the front line though, and it may be that Tottenham see him as a quality squad option rather than a starter next term.
